Job Vacancies – Student Helpers

The Library is looking for students to fill vacancies in different Library units:

1. Library Administration Office (Facilities)


Part-time appointments (2 posts) from June to August 2017

Duties (post 1)

  • Input data to compile statistics, pivot table and plot graph relating to Library
  • General office duties including scanning, filing, assembling and weeding of documents
  • Field work including checking defects of furniture/equipment/facilities in Library
  • Other duties as assigned

Duties (post 2)

  • Similar to post 1 but with more design work using AI to create/ amend Library floor plans and graphics
  • Preferably have an interest in design and graphics (e.g. Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop)

Requirements

  • Good command of Chinese and English
  • Proficient in MS Office including Excel, Word, PPT for post 1
  • Proficient in Adobe AI, Photoshop for post 2
  • Willing to learn and able to work independently with self-initiatives
  • Able to work independently with little supervision
  • Detailed oriented and able to communicate with peers and supervisors

Salary

HK$56 per hour (up to 17 hours/week)

2. Access Services


Part-time appointments from 1 June to 31 August 2017

Duties

  • Provide service at Circulation & Reserve Counter. Duties include checking out and checking in library materials, answering general enquiries, helping users to search books and tidying up at library closing
  • Perform stacks duties, including shelving books and periodicals, shelf-reading, handling newspapers and patrolling
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Good communication, interpersonal skills and team spirit
  • Strong sense of responsibility
  • Work regular hours weekly

Available working time slots

  • Mon-Fri:
  • Tue-Wed:
  • Sat:
  • Sun:

9am – 12noon / 2pm – 5pm
5:30pm – 9:30pm
9am – 1pm / 3:30pm – 7:30pm
1pm – 5pm

 

Salary

HK$56 per hour (up to 17 hours/week)

3. Reference


The appointee will work with the E-Learning Team to create interactive e-learning videos and games (http://lbcone.ust.hk/elearning/).

Part-time appointments from July to August 2017

Requirements

  • Good computer skills + Good command of written & spoken English
  • Ability to work independently & as part of a team
  • Good sense of humor & good graphical sense (layout, colors, etc.)
  • Experience in graphic design tools (e.g. Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator)
  • Experience in & knowledge of popular e-video & gaming software (e.g. Adobe Captivate, HTML5)
  • Knowledge in AR mobile game development would be an advantage

Salary

HK$56 per hour (up to 17 hours/week)

Start Date: 3 July 2017

4. Technical Services (Cataloging)


Part-time appointments from June to August 2017 (renewable)

Job Duties

  • Assist in modifying metadata in databases
  • Search metadata in catalogs/databases/Internet
  • Stamp and label for library materials
  • Index articles for News Clippings database
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Responsible, attention to details, well organized, and ability to work accurately
  • Experience in searching library databases
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word and knowledge in Chinese word processing required
  • Working hours: 12-17 hours per week (June-August)

Salary

HK$56 per hour
