SpringerLink Migration – Personal Accounts “will be lost”
If you use any of the e-journals on SringerLink, please note that there will be some changes in the service starting at 6:00pm on 15 October (Monday):
- All connections will be automatically migrated to a new platform with new features

Android Application Now Available!
You can now search the HKUST Library Catalog on your Android-based smart phone using a specialized Android App!
Visit http://www.appbrain.com/app/hkust-library-catalog/hkust.LibraryCatalog.gui for information or to install it to your Android device.
This application provides a simple interface for you to search the million books and other items in the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) Library. It is based on the RSS syndication features offered by SmartCAT, HKUST Library’s web 2.0 enriched library catalog system.
Library Catalog Now on iPhone / Touch / iPad
Phone users are now able to search the HKUST Library Catalog via the m.HKUST application. This is a joint project of the Library and the Publishing Technology Center.
The m.HKUST application is available as a free download from the iPhone App Store via iTunes. m.HKUST is available for Apple’s iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad devices.
Users can search for library materials, see the cover image, read a summary, obtain item availability information, find out which book shelf the item is on, and bookmark the item information for future reference. This mobile Catalog interface will also provide external links, such as to full-text of electronic resources. Continue reading
Citation Counts of Published Papers Added to Institutional Repository
Citation counts of all published papers have now been added to all records in the HKUST Institutional Repository.
The number of citations received by each journal article or conference paper is dynamically retrieved from the database Scopus.

Library Workshop: LexisNexis Academic & WiseNews
LexisNexis Academic and WiseNews are two primary databases giving full-text access to thousands of newspaper sources around the world. These two databases complement each other in terms of geographic coverage.
LexisNexis Academic contains over 6,000 English language sources, including US and international newspapers, magazines, news wires, and broadcast transcripts.
WiseNews specializes in Chinese language newspapers published in Hong Kong, China, Taiwan and Macau.

The Department of Finance and the Library will jointly offer open workshops for Reuters 3000 Xtra and Reuters PowerPlus Pro.
1. Reuters 3000 Xtra Basic Overview – a premium database for integrated financial information. The workshop will show you how to:
- Find and retrieve current & historical data on stocks, indices, exchange rates, etc.
- Search for companies that meet certain criteria (e.g., PE ratio, dividend yield)
- Compare stocks in the same or different sectors
- Plot and download the price line graph of one or more instruments

Web of Science (1991-) provides access to Science Citation Index Expanded
SCI Expanded) and Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI). These two
databases together cover over 8,000 top international journals in science,
engineering, business and social sciences. Users can also navigate to
electronic full-text journal articles subscribed by the HKUST Library.
They, therefore, are important tools for scholarly research in all these
fields.
This workshop will show you how to:
– Perform general searches by author, title, topic, etc
– Obtain full-text of the retrieved articles
– Find articles that have cited a particular author or work
– Trace the number of times that an article has been cited
– Discover key papers on a particular topic
