Jointly offered by the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China (中國科學技術信息研究所) and the National Science and Technology Library (國家科技圖書文獻中心), it provides a platform for scientific and technical researchers to upload preprints. Access to the preprints is free. Authors can make changes to their works which are recorded. Better viewed with IE.

One of the most innovative and successful experiments to date in scholarly communication. First developed in 1991 by the Los Alamos National Laboratories, the arXive-print server was the first successful automated electronic archive and distribution server for research papers in physics and related disciplines: mathematics, nonlinear sciences, computational linguistics, and neuroscience.

An Open Archive service with citation links and analyses developed at the University of Southampton. It allows searching across
free, full-text research science literature eprint archives, viewing the references
of a paper and articles that have cited it. Reading the help information is useful for understanding the limitations of its citation analysis.

Science Commons
The goal of Science Commons is to facilitate the use and discovery of scientific research data. It designs strategies and tools, crafts guidelines and develop technology that make research information easier to find and use. Five projects are available through this website. The Scholar’s Copyright Project contains the Scholar’s Copyright Addendum Engine that helps authors to negotiate the rights needed to use and distribute their work. Other projects are Biological Materials Transfer Project, the Neurocommons, the Health Commons, and GreenXchange.

Social Science Research Network (SSRN)
Composed of a number of specialized research networks, e.g. Accounting, Finance, Economics, etc. SSRN Abstract Database contains abstracts of over 27,400 scholarly working papers and forthcoming papers and the Electronic Paper Collection currently contains over 12,700 downloadable full text documents.

SPARC
SPARC (the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition) is a worldwide alliance of research institutions, libraries and organizations that encourages competition in the scholarly communications market. It explores new solutions to scientific journal publishing, and partners with publishers that bring top-quality, low-cost research to a greater audience. HKUST Library is a SPARC member.
