David Rumsey Historical Map Collection
Over 3,000 images of cartographic materials have been made available on the Internet using cutting-edge technology. The collection focuses on 18th and 19th century American, but does have some maps on other parts of the world, e.g. China, Japan, etc. Users can search using a robust search engine, zoom in to see the smallest details of the map, and access other related materials.

Getty Thesaurus of Geographic Names
The first automated source of hierarchically arranged geographic data that is global in scope. The TGN comprises records for approximately 900,000 places. It provides vernacular, English, and historical names, as well as additional information about the places.

National Climatic Data Center
Included are data sets that track historical climate data throughout the U.S. and on global hazards. The “In the Spotlight” area features more recent thematic collections, e.g. information on the weather at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, summaries of the storm meteorology of Hurricane Katrina.
