One can choose between Chinese (GB) and English versions. Through the Chinese version of 統計數據 link, one can have free access to a database "中國人口數據表" where data on China's population and related socio-economic data from 1991 to 2004 can be found. A yearly chart gives total population by region, age-sex composition, population density, labor force, fertility, and more.

Maintained by the National Bureau of Statistics of PRC, the site provides census figures, statistical data, and information from the Fifth national census 2000. Reports of the census data from major provinces are offered. Better viewed with Internet Explorer.

Covers the Hong Kong resident population, provide up-to-date benchmark information on the demographic and socio-economic characteristics of the population and on its geographical distribution. Also includes 2006 Population By-census.

City Population

Offers statistics and maps about the populations of countries and major agglomerations of the world. For all countries, information about the population of their administrative divisions and their principal cities is provided.

GeoHive: Global Statistics

Contains statistics on human population and earth in general. The Charts Index provides rankings for several datasets, such as the most populous countries, countries with the most area, etc.

Infonation Advanced

An easy-to-use, two-step database that allows you to view and compare the statistical data for United Nations' Member States. You can select up to seven countries, and then up to four data fields to retrieve statistics relating to geography, economy, population and social indicators.

LABORSTA Internet

An International Labour Office database that contains labor statistics for over 200 countries or territories: historical data, estimates and projections on various topics, e.g. consumer price indices, economically active population, employment, unemployment, hours of work, wages, labour cost, occupational injuries, strikes, etc.

Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute (NIDI)

NIDI studies population issues in their social context. This site offers over 500 links to international demography information. Under the 'Documentation' section, one can find an extensive collection of links to population literature.
