In a multiscript database, the presence of vernacular scripts in the
authority record is absolutely necessary.  Those who cannot read
non-roman scripts will simply skip those headings since they are not
searching for data/books in non-roman scripts.  Romanizations as
front-end search methods are assets to readers+ADs- used as points of
authority with the vernacular in linking +AFs-880+AF0-s in authority records
would
pose more as +AFs-liabilities+AF0- rather than +AFs-assets+AF0-.

+AD4APg-cannot read them?+ACI- If we reject as unworthy the notion that
catalogers
+AD4APg-catalog mainly for other catalogers, I think the real question
should be:
+AD4APg-How can romanized headings they cannot read help catalog users find
+AD4APg-nonroman script books (etc.) they could read?
+AD4APg-I look forward to this program and hope it will explore whether
+AD4APg-romanization is a cataloging principle or a principal impediment to
+AD4APg-access.  The inability to hire card filers who know the order of
+AD4APg-letters of other alphabets is no longer a valid reason for
romanization.
