HKUST Scholarly Publications Database

The HKUST Scholarly Publications Database is the product of the Knowledge Harvesting Project between the Library and the Office of the Vice-President of Research and Graduate Studies (VPRGO) conducted during 2010-2012. The aim of the project was to build a publication analysis system to identify areas of excellence in research.

Goals

  • To host a complete and accurate index of publications authored by HKUST researchers
  • To establish author profiles of current faculty members to showcase their publications, bibliometrics and research interests in a single interface
  • To provide an infrastructure for performing further analysis on publications

Scope and Coverage

More than 49,000 publications produced by the HKUST researchers have been indexed in the database, covering journal articles, conference papers, book chapters and books. For current faculty members, their publications produced before joining the University are also included. Links to full-text are also provided.

We have set up author profiles for over 490 faculty members.

Milestones and Timeline

  • Dec 2009 - Project initiated
  • Jan 2011 - Beta version released; 34,000 publication data loaded
  • May 2011 - Began author profile creation
  • Feb 2012 - Started creating author profiles for current faculty members
  • Jun 2012 - Released over 450 profiles of our current faculty members for public access
  • Mar 2013 - Over 120,000 page visits were recorded in the past six months, with 54% of visits outside of the campus

Benefits

  • One-stop portal for complete and accurate listing of publications
  • Seamless compilation of bibliometrics by pulling citation figures from scattered sources
  • Increase visibility of faculty members' publications and expertise in the Internet search engines
  • Readily available infra-structure for more added-value services on knowledge analysis

VPRGO and the Library will continue to work closely to sustain this one-stop university-wide scholarly publications platform, with enriched tools to be used internally by schools and departments for various analyzing and reporting purposes, and externally by industries and researchers for knowledge discovery. For instance, the Database is being utilized to feed faculty members' publication data for the 2014 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE).

Your contribution and support is essential for the success of this project and the whole knowledge harvesting effort. For any questions, you are welcomed to contact:

  • If you have already created a Google Scholar Citations profile, please email lbspi@ust.hk and let us know so that we can include it in your HKUST scholarly publications profile. For a quick overview, see our Online Tutorial on Google Scholar Citations. To find out more about Google Scholar Citations, follow the Research Guide for details.

  • Research interests tab - shows the author's research interests.

Faculty members can edit their own profiles by:

  1. Clicking the "Edit my profile" link.
