Placing Materials On Reserve

When Class assignments can only be completed by using certain library materials, faculty members should request that these materials be placed on Reserve (2 hour, 24 hour, or 3 day loan).

Place material on Reserve before giving out the class assignments. This will allow fair access to the items for all students in the class.

Place Books on Reserve

For Books Available in the Library

Use one of the following channels to place a request:

Library staff will transfer the books from the Book Collection to Reserve, or make links to the electronic copies accordingly.

Books Not Available in the Library

  • Send a list of books to be purchased to lbacq@ust.hk stating:
    1. Course title and course code
    2. Estimated number of students
    3. Suggested loan period (2 hour, 24 hour, or 3-day)

Or

Library staff will try their best to obtain the requested material locally, but some might have to be obtained from abroad. Please submit the list as far in advance of the school session as possible to allow for sufficient time to acquire and process the materials.

Place Journal Articles on Reserve

Journal Articles Available in the Library or by Online Subscription

Use one of the following channels to place a request:

Library staff will prepare the photocopy or make a link to an available electronic copy.

Personal Copies of Journal Articles and Lecture Notes

  • Deliver the copy of journal article or lecture notes to the Reserve Counter, either in-person or via internal mail.
  • Please remember:
    1. Copies must be in portrait format, preferably on A4 paper.
    2. Do not reduce the size during photocopying of the article.
    3. Provide legible handwriting for hand-written notes.

As the term progresses, you may send additional lecture notes through campus mail, with a note specifying the course code and lecturer's name.

Due to copyright restrictions, some journal articles are only available from Reserve in hard-copy form.

Place Media Items on Reserve

Media Reserve on LG/1 consists of media items requested by faculty members for class assignments. They are intended for limited-time use in the library.

Personal Media Items

  • Bring them to the Media Resources counter. If it is the first reserve item for your course, fill out the Media Resources Reserve Request form there.
