The Hong Kong University of Science & Technology Library is pleased to offer the following seminar on series cataloging to library workers in Hong Kong on Monday, 21 February 2005. The seminar will be presented by Ms Judith A. Kuhagen, Senior Cataloging Policy Specialist from the Library of Congress. She will be discussing issues relating to series cataloging and series authority control, including analysis of series, descriptive cataloging, series classification, basic knowledge of series authority records, an update on AACR3, and an overview of integrating resources.
Judith has extensive experience in series cataloging. She has been the Senior Cataloging Policy Specialist of Cataloging Policy & Support Office at Library of Congress since 1985, responsible for the descriptive cataloging policies for Library of Congress (LC) and for participants in the Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC) in these areas: serials (including monographic series), multipart monographs, updating loose-leafs, and series authority records. She is also involved in the revision of AACR2 and the work on AACR3. She is the author of PCC's series training materials and a presenter at more than 25 PCC series training institutes. She is also a member and the secretary of the Standing Committee of the Cataloguing Section, International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions. Prior to 1985, Judith had worked in two U.S. universities and LC as a serials cataloger and the supervisor of serials catalogers at LC.
The purpose of Judith's visit to Hong Kong is to provide series training to HKUST librarians on the creation and modification of series authority records relating to our NACO participation. We are very pleased that she is willing to give a public presentation on general series cataloging issues.
