Advanced Search
"Advanced Search" is very flexible. You can specify the publication types, date range, display format, sorting options and search fields (such as Document Title, Publication Title or Abstract).
 |
Option 1
Allows selecting search fields and operators from pull-down menus.
Option 2
Uses command searches. If field codes are not specified, all fields are searched.

Search Strategies
Exact Word Search
Enclose the word in double quotes to search for the exact word.
e.g., "cable"
Stem Variations
By default, the system will search for plural and suffixed forms of any keywords such as -ing, and ed. Therefore, cable will find "cable", "cables", "cabled" and "cabling".
Truncation
Use * to find all possible endings.
e.g., volt* will find "volt", "voltage", "voltmeter", etc.
Wildcard
The wildcard symbol "?" replaces one alphanumeric character.
e.g., resist?r will find "resister", "resistor", etc.
Phrase Search
Multiple words will be searched as a phrase.
Search Operators
AND - narrow a search by combining concepts, e.g., hydroelectric and turbine
OR - broaden a search by including synonyms or alternative terms, e.g., encryption or cryptography
NOT - exclude a word from your search, e.g., sensors not actuators
<NEAR/[#]> - specify the distance between search terms, e.g., digital <near/5> watermark*
Parentheses
Use parentheses to set priority; terms inside the brackets will be searched first.
e.g., wideband and (wireless or mobile)
Field Searching
Use
field codes to specify where the search terms should appear. Some frequently used fields:
