With the upcoming "3-3-4" change to Hong Kong's educational system, and the associated major increase in the number of students attending HKUST, various campus expansions and construction projects are now underway.
One of these will be an extension on the North side of the Library building. The extension consists of five floors, three of which expand Library space. We expect that the groundbreaking for this extension will occur in Fall 2008, with construction continuing for about two years. Meanwhile, the Library initiated the Information Commons Improvement Project that aims to enrich the services and facilities at the IC by Fall 2009.
According to FMO, the current construction schedule for the extension is:
|April ~ August 2008||Tendering for Contractor|
|January 2009||Foundation Works|
|2008 ~ 2010||Construction of Extension|
|October 2010||Completion of Extension|
Demolition / Joining
|July ~ October 2010||Connection to existing building|
|2010 ~ 2011||Relocation of some existing spaces
Planned construction of 24-hour Open Study Zone
Of course, these schedules may be subject to change.
