Relevance Ranking of Word/Phrase Search Results

Keyword results are by default ranked to display the most revelant and recent results first.

Search results are ranked into 5 groups, based on where the search term(s) appear in the record. Titles within each group are sorted by publication date in descending order. Below are the detailed explanations using 'domestic violence' as the search term:

The search terms appear in the main title as a phrase.

"Rethinking domestic violence" will be one of the Most Relevant items.

Highly relevant

The search terms appear in the sub-title or other title information as a phrase.

An example is "Eight lessons in love : a domestic violence reader" because 'domestic violence' appears in the subtitle.

Very relevant
Very Relevant

The search terms appear in the contents, series notes or subject headings as a phrase.

"Handbook of children, culture, and violence" belongs to this group because 'domestic violence' appears as a phrase in contents notes.

Relevant
Relevant

The search terms can appear anywhere in the main title and/or sub-title - in any order and may not be next to each other.

"Domestic crimes, family violence and child abuse : a study of contemporary American society" will be found in this group because 'domestic' and 'violence' appear in the title/subtitle.

Other relevant
Other Relevant

All the search terms appear anywhere in the record in any order.

"Contesting moralities : science, identity, conflict" is an example because 'domestic' appears in a subject heading and the term 'violence' appears in a summary note.
