Re-creating Masterpieces: A Closer Look at Song, Yuan & Ming Paintings

Preface

The exhibition presents the Library’s collection of Nigensha reproductions of masterworks of Chinese painting from the Song (960-1279), Yuan (1271-1368) and Ming (1368-1644) dynasties, tracing her major artistic trends from monumental landscape to poetic space to literati expression. Faithfully re-creating the size, texture and ink value of each original, these exquisite facsimiles invite intimate viewing to appreciate the power of image and subtlety of brushwork, and to discover what makes each work a masterpiece.

Co-organized by the HKUST Library and Division of Humanities, this exhibition supports the academic program “Introduction to Chinese Painting” taught by Prof Flora Fu. Students will lead public tours of the exhibition as part of the assessment.
